Helping To End Food Insecurity In Geauga County
Giving Back
The Geauga Hunger Task Force is a non-profit organization whose vision is to end food insecurity in Geauga County, Ohio through leadership, funding and collaboration.
Hold a Food Drive
Pick your pantry.
Reach out to your local pantries to find one in need that is willing to accept your donations so you can plan a drive that will best fit their needs and availability.

Set your goal.
Determine how much food do you want to collect. For example, one food item for every participant or 100 pounds of food in total.

Set your dates.
Pick a start and end date for your food drive. Two to three weeks is usually enough time to get the word out and keep the momentum going for a successful drive.

Pick a location.
Select a highly visible, safe and convenient location for people to collect and store the food. Locations such as office building lobbies or cafeterias are good choices.

Get the word out.
Let everyone know what you’re up to and what kinds of food items are needed. Use email, posters, fliers, snail mail, newsletters, and social media. Create a friendly competition and offer prizes.

Collect the food.
Let people drop off at convenient times and provide boxes labeled “Food Drive” with the dates. On the last day, count it up or weigh it! Did you meet your goal? Pro food drive tip: Use smaller boxes, otherwise they will be too heavy to carry when full.

Deliver the food.
Your contribution is even bigger when you deliver the food you’ve collected! Coordinate delivery directly with your local pantry. Plan ahead and see if there is someone who would volunteer to be the designated delivery person.

Celebrate!
Announce the results, congratulate and thank your participants! Let them know that you, the Geauga Hunger Task Force and the hungry people we serve are grateful and appreciative of their generosity!
Make a Food Donation
If you wish to make food donations, and have the ability, please consider giving foods that are gluten-free or lower in sodium and sugar so that we may provide a wonderful gift without adding to complications such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
